Video: Nigerians living in river confluence brace up for flooding
Nigeria Hydrological Agency has alerted members of the public,
particularly residents near the river Niger/Benue confluence in
Lokoja, Kogi state, North central Nigeria, to a rise in water level in
the country.
Acting Director General of the agency, Mr Ahmed Mabudi warned that the
current 10.66metres water levels in Lokoja could result in floods and
called on residents in the area to be vigilant especially at night,
when water levels tend to rise more.

The ECOWAS High Commission says the ongoing discussion of
Scientific and Technical Consultative Group meeting on climate Change
in Abuja will help to achieve the desired impact of climatic change
across the member states.
The Commissioner, Agriculture, Environment and Water Resources, Mr
Sekou Sangare, said the climate change issue was a major global
challenge that would require results from studies on impacts in West
Africa.
Mr Mabingwe Ngom, United Nations Population Fund Regional Director
for West and Central Africa, has pledged stronger collaboration to
raise public awareness on reproductive health care.
Ngom made the pledge during a courtesy visit to Mr Bayo Onanuga, the
Managing Director of News Agency of Nigeria.
In his remarks, Onanuga commended UNFPA for supporting and
strengthening reproductive health services across countries.

Nigeria and a Chinese firm, Shandong Ruyi International Fashion
Industry, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the first-ever
cotton value-chain industry worth 2billion US dollars.
The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr Okechukwu Enelamah
who unveiled the deal said the agreement involved cotton growing,
spinning, textile manufacture in Katsina, Kano, Abia and Lagos States.
Enelamah said China’s President Xi Jinping had promised to open his
country’s market for agricultural products from Nigeria in accordance
with trade negotiations between both countries.

The United Nations Development Programme has commended Nigeria for
efficiently utilising assets recovered from illicit Financial Flows to
ensure and enhance national growth and development.
Dr Samuel Bwalya, the Country Director of UNDP, during a session of
the International conference on Combating Illicit Financial Flows and
Enhancing Asset Recovery for Sustainable Development, said government
was making progress in the fight against corruption efforts and urged
other African countries to emulate Nigeria.
