Saudi’s relief to Yobe IDPs: 7,548 food baskets received – NEMA

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Saturday in Damaturu, said that over 7,000 food baskets had been received from the government of Saudi Arabia for distribution to Internally Displaced Persons in Yobe State.

The distribution of the materials, donated by King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KS Relief) was flagged off last Friday.

Deputy Director, Special Duties, NEMA, Hajiya Fatima Kasim, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the agency was expecting a total of 15,096 but had so far received 7,548.

“The total food baskets donated to Yobe is 15,096. So far, 50 per cent, which is 7,548 has been received and the centre is expected to bring the balance of 7,548.

“3,774 food baskets will be distributed on monthly basis, that is between Dec. 2018 and March 2019”, she said.

Kasim added that 1,750 food baskets were distributed in Kukareta,148 in Ngabrawa, 147 in Furi and 43 in Muhammadu Gombe farm.

She added that as at Saturday, 184 had been distributed in Kasaisa and 171 in Abari-YBC community.

Malam Girema Sharif, one of the beneficiaries expressed his gratitude, saying that the assistance was timely and appreciable.

NAN recalled that on Dec. 7, the Director-General NEMA Mustapha Maihaja flagging-off the distribution of KSRelief materials in Yobe, at Kukareta village, Damaturu Local Government Area.

Recall that at the flagging off ceremony, King Salman Abdulaziz, represented by Nasser Al-Subaie had said that the donation is expected to benefit 840 IDPS in Yobe State.

For Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam, he expressed delight at the gesture of the King, adding that the materials would be distributed equitably to the intended beneficiaries as a step to bring succour to their lives.
