Premier League table: Manchester City go top after narrow win over Tottenham

Manchester City overcame Tottenham and a difficult Wembley pitch, to claim a 1-0 win in Monday night’s Premier League clash.

Riyad Mahrez struck the winner after just six minutes to settle the contest and return the champions to the top of the table on goal difference.

Pep Guardiola’s men came into the game in third place, after Liverpool and Chelsea won their respective fixtures.

But Mahrez calmed their nerves early on, latching onto Raheem Sterling’s cutback to score.

City now have 26 points from 10 matches, the same as Liverpool, but with a stronger goals difference.

Chelsea sit in third place with 24 points, while Arsenal have 22.
