The Delta State Police Command on Friday confirmed the rescue of kidnapped police officer attached to “A” Division Police Station in Asaba, adding that nine suspects were arrested in connection with the crime.

Recall that the police officer attached to “A” Division was kidnapped by hoodlums believed to be kidnappers around Ossissia/Nsukwa axis on Kwale/Ogwashi Uku road few weeks ago.

It was however gathered that the officer was released by the abductors when a crack team of detectives led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations at the Command swooped on the kidnappers based on a tip-off, in their hideout where the officer was held hostage, and arrested nine of them.

Confirming the arrest of the suspects and the release of the officer, to journalists in Asaba on Friday, the Police Commissioner in the state, Mustafa Muhammad said, “the suspects are now helping us, investigation is ongoing. Efforts had been stepped up to arrest other members of the Kidnap gang. No stone will be left unturned to bring the hoodlums to book and the arrested ones will be charged to court on completion of investigation.

“The officer was rescued unhurt, and the team was led by the DC Operations of the command. The command wishes to restate that it will not be business as usual for criminals in the state unless they relocate elsewhere.”

Meanwhile, the Police commissioner further confirmed the death of a lady found dead in her apartment after four days around DLA road, Asaba Delta State .

Muhammad said that the lady, identified as Blessing Iwu, had washed her clothes and after hanging them towards evening last Monday went to bed and did not wake from sleep, unknown to her neighbours.

The police boss said that the incident occurred at no 4 Njokamma street in Asaba, adding that the police were investigating the mysterious death of the woman with a view to ensuring that what was responsible is made known.

He said, “When the door was forced open after four days, due to the offensive odour that was emitting out, everyone ran away. She was found in pool of blood in her room with injuries all over her body.”

The Police commissioner added that the corpse had been deposited at the Federal Medical Center (FMC) Asaba mortuary for autopsy, while investigation continues.
