Police in Texas, United States have arrested a man after reportedly telling kids outside a church that Santa Claus is not real.
Aaron Urbanski, 31, was charged Saturday with criminal trespassing after a complaint that he and two others were demonstrating outside a church in Cleburne, according to The Associated Press.
The United Methodist Church of Cleburne was holding a “breakfast with Santa” event for families, according to the AP.
Police said that Urbanski refused to leave and “continued to cause a disturbance,” when he was arrested. Parents told a local NBC affiliate that the protesters were shouting that Santa isn’t real.
They reportedly accosted parents and children with the question: “Do you let your kids believe in a fake Santa or do they know who Jesus is?”
Scott Cain, mayor of Cleburne, posted about the incident on Facebook, writing: “Don’t Mess With Santa!”
“While I understand folks right to protest, Cleburne loves Santa and those protestors who were naughty and broke the law when they trespassed were arrested promptly,” Cain wrote. “Guess they wanted coal in their stockings to go with a court appearance.”
Last week in New Jersey, a school district fired a substitute teacher who told students that Santa Claus is not real.
