PDP Presidential Aspirant, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, (l) with Kwara State governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed as part of his consultations to party members ahead of the PDP presidential primary.

Ahead of the 2019 poll, the group, Presidential Aspirants Coming Together (PACT) has reiterated its resolve to unseat President Muhammadu Buhari, saying it has perfected strategies to enter into alliance with opposition political parties to achieve that goal.

In a statement, one of the presidential aspirants under PACT, Mr. Mathias Baba Tsado, disclosed that notwithstanding the emergence of Mr. Fela Durotoye as its consensus candidate, all other persons aspiring for the presidency can go ahead and pursue their aspirations in their respective political parties.

Tsado said: “It is often believed that the route to success is filled with various challenges and that only those who have the ability to pack, unpack and repack make it to the top. PACT as a group might have hit a brick wall, but our resolve to rescue Nigeria remains irrevocable. “We believe mistakes have been made and lessons have been learnt, we therefore shall come back stronger and better, because our only strength is in our unity. The challenges of today shall only form part of our story, not the end of our journey.”

He called on members and supporters of PACT, other young presidential aspirants, their supporters and the general public to prepare to come back together in the pursuit of the noble cause, even as he advised members who wish to continue with their individual campaign and consultations to continue until issues around PACT were fully resolved.

Among those angling for the presidency under the PACT initiative were Dr. Kingsley Moghalu, ,Dr Elishama Ideh, Mrs. Godstime Sydney Iroabuchi, Alistair Soyode, Awwal Abdullahi Aliyu, Clement Jumbo, Thomas-Wilson Ikubese, Comrade Eragbe Anslem, Dr Abubakar Alkali ,Jaye Gaskia, Ahmed Buhari,  Sina Fagbenro-Byron, Victor Ani-Laju, Emmanuel Etim, and Ayodele Favour. The group regretted the disagreement among its members in spite of the transparent procedure adopted to arrive at the choice of Durotoye as consensus candidate.

Meanwhile, in Gombe State, the ranks of the leading opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were depleted when the younger brother to the state governor and frontline presidential aspirant, Dr. Ibrahim Dankwambo, Buhari Dankwambo and his staunch ally, Auwal Abdullahi Gafakan Akko defected from the party alongside their supporters.

Speaking to Journalists in Gombe, Gafakan Akko explained that they decided to join APC because it offers them a platform to render service to the people, saying: “Today, I and others are not just joining the APC for joining sake, we are joining because we are on a mission of saving the state from bad leadership.” While expressing appreciation to APC officials for the warm reception accorded him and his supporters, Gafakan Akko said it shows they were in the right place.

The younger Dankwambo defied entreaties from his elder governor and presidential aspirant to register with the APC at his Ajiya ward in Gombe north senatorial district. It was gathered that Buhari Dankwambo had been under intense pressures from different quarters to rescind his decision, including juicy offers, which he rejected.

A source close to the governor confided in The Guardian that efforts to stop Dankwambo from moving to APC were not entirely based on his political clout, but initiated to ensure that he does not jeopardise the aspiration of the governor, who is his blood brother.“Already some people are saying that something is obviously wrong, saying that it implies that the governor is not capable of managing situations around him or that he was losing out in PDP.

“We felt we could manage the situation, but unfortunately it was beyond our capacity,” the source said, just as he refused to supply further details of what really transpired. While receiving the new members at the party’s secretariat at Akko local government council, Gombe Central APC zonal vice chairman, Alhaji Adamu Kwaja, said the party has now been accepted in the state with massive addition of supporters.Kwaja declared: “We are happy to receive such a political general in APC, we are happy to capture this big fish, along with thousands of his supporters. Gafaka is an asset and he will no doubt add value to our party. Time has come when the party will take over the mantle of leadership of the state from PDP.”
