Oyo 2019: Why I rejected APC senatorial ticket – Ex-governor, Alao-Akala

Former Governor of Oyo State and gubernatorial candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in the 2019 general elections, Chief Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala, has explained why he rejected the senatorial ticket offered him by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Alao-Akala while speaking with journalists in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Saturday, declared that he rejected the offer because his people wanted him to run for governor and not as Senator.

DAILY POST recalls that the former governor, who recently dumped the APC, pulled out of the party’s gubernatorial primary election when he alleged that the state governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi has perfected plans to impose one of the aspirants, a day to the election last month.

Alao-Akala later emerged as the gubernatorial candidate of the ADP after its leaders issued him a return ticket with explanation that the former governor had satisfied all the requirements under the party to be the flag bearer of the party in 2019.

The former governor while speaking during the interview on Saturday, added that he rejected the offer to go to the senate because the people who wanted him in politics did not ask him to run for Senate.

He said, “I rejected it because the people who want me in politics did not ask me to go the Senate. They asked me to run as governor.

“If tomorrow, they want me in the Senate, I will do as I am asked. I am not alone in politics. In fact, it is cheaper for me to run for a senatorial seat”.

He concluded by saying that he was “fit, tested and trusted” to succeed Ajimobi as governor of the state.
