Nigerians have reacted to the emergence of Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the winner of the gubernatorial primary election held in the Lagos State.
DAILY POST had reported that the APC National Working Committee NWC cancelled the election held on Tuesday, saying the state chapter had no power to conduct the party primary election on its own.
However, the State Chairman, Tunde Balogun on Tuesday night went ahead to announce that Babajide Sanwo-Olu, polled 970,851 votes to defeat Akinwunmi Ambode who polled 72,901 votes.
Reacting, Nigerians on social media expressed divergent opinions over the announcement.
Here are some comments gathered by DAILY POST
@Imohwo, βYou people are bunch of confusionists, Iβm personally tired of yβall & I believe millions of Nigerians share same frustration.β
@mcgboye, βOver 1 million people voted in the Lagos primaries. Only APC members o.For perspective, thatβs more than voted for APC in the 2015 elections. And that one was open to everybody. You all know this is a shame.β
@olajpv, βThe power play being displayed in Lagos shows that the result of the primary election is of importance not only to the actors and the βMASTERβ but also to the party. The fortune of the party in the general election should override any personal ambitions.
Vwede_g, βSo much confusion in the APC. My thoughts. The party lack direction. These issues are avoidable. No proper leadership in the party at this time. just lots of selfish interest groups. you canβt pretend forever. So much pretence that all his well. The chicken has come to roast.β
@Patrick semq, βMost things about this APC government is questionable. I wonder how we got here. How to get out of this mess is another issue because from all indication these people wonβt let go of power.β
@thybullyone, βThought they cancelled the primaries ?So Ambo can score 72k votes ,even with intimidation, harassment and open ballot voting. So imagine if secret ballot system is used tomorrow and delegates then vote their conscience without fear or persecution from the JAGABAN BOYS.β
@Mlutherkingqyot, βDemocracy is dead in Nigeria. If such impunity is being executed in a PRIMARY ELECTION, what should we expect in the main election? Just because Tinubu said you should vote for somebody, that is why you want to vote for the person. When suffering start tomorrow, same people will blame government. I pray our eyes will open someday so people can start voting for who they think is right not who others think.β
@copara2ginika, βAmbode is the cause of his problems. He abandoned the masses and was after projects and the affluent. No investment in human capital.β
@NewsAdikt, βThe ruling class in Nigeria does not want democracy to grow. This is why they always abort the electoral will of the people.β
@Lokopopin, βWith what happened today now i can imagine how they manipulated osun election for APC and we talk say wey dey practice democracy.β
@AkinwunmiAmbode, βAs a governor performed, but failed as a party member.
@omoboyinka, βIf youβre based in Lagos, prepare for 4 years of area boys having a free will to operate, backwardness.β
