Lagos PDP governorship aspirants hopeful of victory, say crisis in APC good for the state

The two aspirants in Lagos State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial primary, Mr. Jimi Agbaje and Deji Doherty, yesterday expressed optimism that they would get the party’s ticket.

They, however, noted that anyone who emerges as the winner of the primary would be supported and worked for to emerge the next governor of the state in 2019.

As at the time of filling in this report, the contest that was initially billed for September 28, 2018, started at 1:00 p.m. yesterday with a huge crowd at Yard 158, Ikeja, Lagos.

Specifically, Agbaje, who noted that the crisis in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has paved the way for the PDP to produce the next governor of the state, said: “We will reap some benefit from whatever has happened in the ruling party.”

He also said that the state would do better if PDP wins in the 2019 general elections.

Also, Doherty, who stated that the party did well in 2015 by electing eight members in the State House of Assembly and five in House of Representatives, said: “PDP is a party of the people.

We prefer our delegate system rather that Option 4 of the APC. There is need to rescue Lagos from debt and also reduce double taxation.

“Once the process is free and fair, I am one person that will accept the will of the people. I ran in 2007, 2011 and 2015.

I lost in the primaries and worked as the director-general of the campaign organisation of the candidate that won, that is my brother, Jimi,” he said.
