Kidnapped Edo APC Chieftain regains freedom

The abducted All Progressives Congress Chairman for the Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, Mr. Henry Ashofor, has been released.

Ashofor was released alongside two others on Tuesday evening, Punch reports.

DAILY POST had reported that Ashofor was kidnapped by unknown gunmen near Aiyetoro, along the Igarra-Ibilo road, last Saturday.

The kidnappers had on Sunday contacted Ashofor’s relatives, demanding N20 million.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Johnson Kokumo, who confirmed his release on Wednesday, said the chieftain was rescued in the bush With the efforts of policemen and vigilantes in the area.

Kokumo said, “He (Ashofor) was released yesterday (Tuesday); the police, together with the locals that had embarked on bush-combing, closed in on the abductors and they (abductors) had no other choice than to free the man.

“There were two of them that were rescued unhurt. We will not rest on our laurels until the perpetrators are arrested.”
