Investing in cancer treatment will reduce medical tourism, says Adewole

Health Minister Isaac Adewole today on inspection of the Vitalbeam High Energy and Halcyon Low Energy Cancer Machines being installed at Lagos University Teaching Hospital Cancer Centre.

Adewole said this while addressing newsmen at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital during the inspection of new cancer treatment Centre at the hospital, adding that they plan to replicate such centres across the country. “The centre is almost ready, so by February it will start operations fully,” Adewole said.

Also speaking, Chris Bode, Chief Medical Director, LUTH, said their aim was to establish a world-class cancer treatment centre, which would help to reduce medical tourism. “When our machines were working properly, a lot of people came from different states for treatment here. We already have the manpower but we are trying to also retrain our experts on how to maintain and use the machine properly,” he said.
