Gunmen kidnap Anambra lecturer in market square

A lecturer with the Federal College of Education (Technical), Umunze, Anambra State, identified as Mrs Okwuchi, has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.

DAILY POST gathered that Okwuchi, who is a lecturer with the Agriculture department of the institution, was kidnapped Saturday afternoon right inside the market square.

A source from Umunze told DAILY POST that the lecturer had driven in her Toyota Camry car into the Nkwo market, being a market day, with the hope of buying some household items when she was accosted by her abductors.

“The woman was abducted at Nkwo Umunze on Saturday. She is a lecturer in Agric Department. She drove in her Toyota Camry to Nkwo Umunze on Saturday, that day was the traditional market day. The gunmen accosted her, shot sporadically into the air and forced her into their vehicle.

“People in the market fled and they took her away, leaving the woman’s car there in the market,” our source said.

The Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr Sam Otti could not speak to our reporter as he was said not to be around at the time our correspondent contacted the institution.

Meanwhile, attempt to get confirmation from the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Haruna Mohammed was unsuccessful, as he told our correspondent, upon calls to his phone lines, that he was about to board a plane back home, and could not react until he was back in town.
