Benue PDP primaries: Ortom in early lead, as 3 aspirants withdraw from governorship race
Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State appears set to fly the flag of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state come 2019.
A simple analysis from the ballot sorting process which is publicly being done shows the Governor is convincing leading the other 3 contestants in the race.
Earlier this morning, former Speaker of the Benue House of Assembly, Barr. Dave Iorhemba, former governorship aspirant, Dr. Gabriel Nyitse and Mr. Joe Iorapuu withdrew from the race, “for the interest of the party”.
Former Director-General of NAFDAC, Dr. Paul Orhii, former Commissioner of Land in Benue, Surv. John Tondu and former Chairman of COREN, Felix Atume, however, remained in the race.
The accreditation exercise which was held in 3 different centres in the state capital, Makurdi over the night was marred by a torrential downpour.
As soon as the accreditation process ended by 5am, the delegates were called to order and voting by secret balloting began by 7.20am until delegates from the 23 local government areas concluded voting by 10.40am.
DAILY POST reports that each stage of the exercise was conducted freely and transparently.
Ballot sorting and counting of over 3,000 accredited votes is expected to round up in few hours.
