Bauchi APC primaries: Gov. Abubakar emerges guber candidate
Governor Muhammed Abubakar has emerged the winner in the just concluded primaries held in Bauchi, winning his rivals by a landslide margin after results were collated from all 20 Local Government Areas of the state.
The returning officer, Prof. Ahmed Bakori, at about 1:30pm declared Barr. Muhammed Abubakar as the winner of the primaries with 75,086 votes to beat his closest rival, Dr. Yakubu Lame who polled 3,988 votes.
Other aspirants, Dr. Ali Pate, Capt. Bala Jibrin (Rtd) polled 2,886 and 2,539 respectively.
Total votes cast stood at 87,312 while invalid votes and unused ballot papers were 1,004 and 1,686 respectively.
According to the returning officer, “Barrister Muhammed Abubakar has fulfilled all requirements of the law and is hereby returned elected”.
Bakori regrets that insecurity and inadequate election materials were among challenges faced by the electoral committee.
It will be recalled that two of the three aspirants contesting in the primaries had called on their supporters to boycott the election, and demanded cancellation of the primaries over allegation of election malpractices.
