The Amnesty International Nigeria has reacted to the decision of a High Court in Imo, to free the 112 IPOB women, who were arrested and detained during a protest demanding for the whereabouts of Nnamdi Kanu and his parents.

“Freedom for #Owerri women came thanks to resilience of many activists, civil society organizations & pro bono lawyers.

“Together we can ensure that all Nigerians live with dignity. #Nigeria #Owerri112,” a tweet from their verified Twitter handle read.

The protesters were arrested Friday, August 17 during a peaceful protest to demand a date for Biafra referendum, as well as the whereabouts of the IPOB leader, who disappeared since September 14, 2017 after raid of his Afaraukwu Umuahia country home by security operatives.

It was gathered that the judge in his verdict asked the police to release them unconditionally after the bail application filed by the lead counsel to the women, Ejiofor Uche, was not opposed, as the Police had no representation in court.

The court granted the bail application, and freed the women unconditionally.
