Ambode urges Nigerians to vote for nation’s collective good

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State has called on all Nigerians to vote in the coming general elections based on “what is ideal for the collective good of the nation.” He also thanked Lagosians for their support and for keeping faith with his programmes and policies, as well as for All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last three years of his administration.
In a message read on his behalf by the Head of Service, Mrs. Folasade Adesoye, to Lagosians at the Police College Parade Ground, GRA, Ikeja, Lagos, yesterday, during the October 1 parade to commemorate the 58th National Independence Day celebration, Ambode implored fellow Nigerians, especially the youths, to take up the mantle of making “Nigeria great again”, and look beyond the slogan “if you can’t beat them, you join them.”
He also urged the youths to “always stand up for what is right, fair and just” and should not be instruments in the hands of “mischievous politicians to cause havoc in the society during elections.”The governor further said that Nigerians must use their votes to put “those who have what it takes to move our nation forward on the path of sustainable growth and development.”
He said Lagos State would continue to be a shining example in progressive and inclusive governance and that citizens must continue to work hard to sustain the mutual trust and confidence between the government and the people.
Ambode, who commend government across all levels, as well as other well meaning Nigerians for exhibiting the spirit of brotherhood for their perseverance and spirit of togetherness that had kept the nation together since independence since October 1, 1960, 58 years ago when “the founding-fathers of our beloved nation led us out “of the chains of colonial oppression, said the fact that we “are still standing as a nation” in face of challenges “is a testament to our resilience.
He, therefore, encouraged Nigerians to forge ahead in the task of nation-building, and renew faith and continue to believe in “our dear nation as this is our place of comfort, our home and motherland.”Meanwhile, the state’s Commissioner for Home Affairs, Dr. Abdul Hakeem AbdulLateef, whose ministry co-ordinated the anniversary, said this 58th Independence anniversary in Lagos is unique.
