Okowa inspects anti-flood project, charges contractors to utilise dry season
Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has charged contractors in the state to make good use of the dry season to complete construction projects in the state.
Okowa spoke during an inspection tour of ongoing projects in the state including the Storm Drainage projects as well as other road projects in Okpanam community.
With particular reference to the storm drainage project which will help reduce the effect of flooding, Okowa said that he expected the project to be completed before the rains return.
The governor, who fielded questions from newsmen, said that he was impressed with the level of work being done and expressed optimism that the contractors will utilize the dry season to complete their projects and hand them over by January.
Okowa who was overjoyed at how the projects were affecting the lives of the people, also pledged to continue to meet the promises he made to Deltans.
“The people are happy with our projects, it shows that we are meeting with their expectations; I was quite surprised with the way the network of roads in Okpanam have impacted on the lives of the people.
“As an individual, I am happy that the people appreciates what we are doing and as a government, we will continue to develop our road infrastructure and other infrastructures because.
“That is the promise we made to the people; we will continue to work hard because the excitement of the people when developmental projects are being achieved brings so much joy to us in government.
“With the dry season, we will do a lot more in the area of road construction and other infrastructure,” he said.
The governor however noted that there were still more work to be done in the area of infrastructural development and promised that his administration will not relent in delivering developmental projects to the people.
Some other projects inspected by the governor were storm drainage project at Government House, Cabinet Office Road, Ralph Uwechue Way, among others.
Inspecting the storm drainage Okowa noted that it had attained different stages of completion and should be completed should.
“The main project that we inspected today is the storm drainage projects and we saw a lot of progress; we are looking at the end of February for the completion.
“From what we saw at the drainage project sites the companies will likely complete the jobs ahead of schedule which is by the end of January; so, I am glad that a lot is being done, the contractors are very serious with their work and that is very good,” he said.
Okowa was accompanied on the inspection by Commissioner for Works, Mr James Augoye and Commissioner for Information counterpart, Patrick Ukahas well as the Director-General of Asaba Capital Territory Development Agency, Mr Clement Ofuani.
