Retired Brig. Gen Adakole Akpa, National Chairman, Nigerian Legion on Wednesday in Abuja restated his administration’s commitment to promoting the welfare of ex-service men and veterans.
Akpa told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that his administration would aggressively pursue the welfare of the legionaries and positively change public perception of veterans in Nigeria.
He said that he would re-position the national headquarters for effective and functional relevance.
“I appeal to Nigerians to change their attitude towards veterans and I promise to engage members in retaining their skills to guarantee marketability.
“Under my administration, there shall be restoration of social confidence through economic stability of veterans nationwide,” Akpa said.
The retired general, who commended his colleagues for living up to expectations, urged them to always put Nigeria first.
He, however, cautioned that Nigerian Legion would not tolerate impunity whatsoever, adding that legionaries need to be epitome of good attitudes.
Akpa added that his administration would not relent in strengthening international relations with veterans organisations in other parts of the world.
NAN reports that the Nigerian Legion was established by Act No. 37 of 1988 and the fundamental function is promoting the welfare of ex-service men.
