The Imo State Independent National Electoral Commission (ONEC), has disclosed that it registered 435,126 new voters as at August 31, 2018 when the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise lapsed.
Addressing chairmen and secretaries of political parties in the state in Owerri yesterday, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Francis Chukwuemeka Ezeonu, disclosed that of the number, 234,610 are males, while 200,516 are females.
He said the commission received 19,352 requests for intra and inter state transfers and 31, 674 for replacement of lost or damaged cards or cards with misspelt names or incorrect personal details.
Ezeonu, however, lamented that in spite appeals, advocacy and enlightenment on voter education in the 27 local councils of the state, over 400,000 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) were still not collected at INEC offices.
