IPAC chairman-elect, Peter Ameh reacts to Police invitation
Newly-elected Chairman of Inter Party Advisory Council, IPAC, a body of all political parties in Nigeria, Chief Ameh Peter, has said he will honour the invitation by the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit over a petition written against him by some members of the organization.
The Police invitation came after his emergence as IPAC chairman over alleged misconduct against him by the Chairman of Allied Congress Party, Gani Galadima, and the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN).
Speaking with DAILY POST in Abuja over the development, Ameh stated that he would not ‘‘be deterred by any form of gimmick to intimidate him.’’
He added that his victory during the council’s election in Abuja recently speaks volume of the ‘‘acceptability he enjoys in IPAC’’.
He pledged to unite the body and work with all members, stressing that the core values of the council would be brought to the fore in the discharge of his duties.
“I want to assure you of the best of unity, cooperation and devotion to democracy as we head into next year’s elections,” he added.
DAILY POST recalls that the National Chairman of Progressives Peoples Alliance (PPA), Ameh Peter had on September 6, defeated Chief Chekwas Okorie of the United Peoples Party (UPP) by 51 against 28 votes, to emerge as Chairman of IPAC.
The police invitation, with reference number CR:3000/IGP.SEC/MU/T.G/ABJ/Vol55/90 which was signed by ACP Abbas Sule, 2i/c IGP Monitoring Unit, read in parts thus: ‘‘…you are kindly requested to come with Dr Yunus Garba on 10th September, 2018 by 1000hrs to shed more light on the allegations.
‘‘Your cooperation in this regard will be highly appreciated, please.’’
Meanwhile, Peter and other elected executives of IPAC will be sworn on Monday.
