Plateau primaries: Jeremiah Useni emerges PDP governorship candidate, to face Lalong in general elections

The former Minister of the FCT and Senator Representing Plateau South Senatorial District, retired Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Useni has emerged as the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP for the 2019 general elections in Plateau State.

Useni got 1018 votes out of the 2097 delegates votes to emerge the flagbearer of the party in the primary elections which held at Langfield Leisure Park Little Rayfield.

Returning Officer of the election, Dr. Ibrahim Umar announced the result this morning after concluding the exercise.

Member representing Shendam, Mikang, Quanpan Federal Constituency, Johnbull Shekarau emerged second with 340 votes, Senator Victor Lar came third with 249 votes while Rt. Hon. George Daika secured 199 votes to emerge forth.

Thirteen aspirants contested in the election, with a former ALGON Chairman, Nicholas Kemi Nshe coming fifth in the contest with 117 votes.

In his acceptance speech, Senator Jeremiah Useni thanked the party for selecting him to fly its flag in the 2019 polls and called on all that contested with him to close ranks to ensure the party emerges victorious in the general elections.

Others who took part in the primary elections were Engr. Ibrahim Ponyak, Godfrey Bawa, Jimmy Cheto, Arc. Sam Jatau, Yitman Maimako, Sam Abashe, Exodus Nandom and Brig. Gen. Musa Gambo who scored 62, 35, 7, 5, 4, 3, 1 and 0 respectively; while 33 votes were invalid.

2097 delegates from the seventeen Local Government Areas of the state were earlier accredited for the exercise by the electoral umpire.

INEC representatives were also on ground to monitor the process in accordance with the electoral guideline.

The aspirants had earlier signed an undertaking to support whoever emerged as the party’s flag bearer.

Meantime, Governor Simon Lalong was also affirmed as the soul candidate of the ruling APC in the State, by party delegates from the 17 LGAs of the State.

The motion for the adoption of Lalong was moved by Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Joshua Madaki and was seconded by Dame Pauline Tallen.
