The crisis rocking the Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki, one of the higher institutions owned by the Oyo State Government, took another dimension on Thursday when the governing council of the institution ordered the management of the institution to proceed on accumulated 4-year annual leave.

DAILY POST recalls that members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP), Oke Ogun Polytechnic had embarked on strike over issues bothering on nonpayment of salary arrears and other entitlements.

This made the Governing Council of the institution to suspend the union and threaten workers with sack if they failed to resume work on Monday.

But the workers, who described the threat as illegal and unconstitutional, advised the governing council to pay their 11-month salary arrears instead of threatening them.

However, the Governing Council following the inability of the management of the institution to resolve the lingering crisis, directed the entire management of the institution to embark on their accumulated 4-year annual leave with immediate effect.
The Council said it has also instituted an acting management whose details would be disclosed later to run the affairs of the institution within the intervention period.

The Governing Council in a statement issued and signed by its Chairman, Professor Moshood Tijani, a copy which was obtained by DAILY POST, enjoined all staff and students to resume to the school on Monday, 17th September.

The statement said, “In view of the inability of the management of The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic, Saki to effect smooth running of the Institution in the last couple of months with the attendant continued strike of the Academic Staff of the Institution which had crippled the academic activities:

“The Governing Council hereby, at its meeting today, Thursday 13th of August, 2018 decides that the entire management should go on their accumulated 4-year annual leave with immediate effect.

“An Acting Management had been put in place to run the affairs of the institution within the intervening period.

“All lecturers are hereby enjoined to go back to work on Monday 17th September 2018, while the students should go back to their classrooms on the same day.

“The Governing Council is using this medium to assure all members of staff and students that their interests are of the utmost importance”.
