Kwara PDP applauds Atunwa’s victory, Bayelsa chapter accepts Bruce’s withdrawal

Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, casting his vote, while electoral officials watch, during Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senatorial primaries for the Bayelsa West senatorial district in Sagbama…yesterday.

The primary, ‘a direct method’ held in Ilorin the state capital drew participants across the existing 16 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.

Besides, the party clarified that there was no any form of imposition of a particular aspirant during the primary, insisting that it was the will of the delegates that prevailed.

The PDP, however, praised the party’s electoral panel chaired by Charles Menagbo, aspirants, delegates and security agencies for the peaceful conduct of the governorship primaries.

Atunwa, a former Speaker of the state House of Assembly polled 1,555 votes to beat Senator Sh’aba Lafiagi, who scored 578 votes, while 32 votes were declared invalid after the exercise.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, was however, absent at the election, a development that settled insinuations that he was supporting either former Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi and incumbent Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Ali Ahmad.
