Anambra: Impeached Speaker won’t return – Uzoezie

The factional speaker of Anambra State House of assembly, Rt Hon Ikemba Uzoezie has said that the former speaker of the house, Hon Rita Maduagwu won’t be returned.

Uzoezie, who briefed journalists shortly after he and members of the assembly loyal to him gained entrance into the assembly complex, said they just from fished their sitting and that legislative business for the day had been concluded.

The new speaker who was surrounded by about 16 members of the house said the house remained loyal to Governor Willie Obiano, who they adjudged as a performing governor.

But a source told DAILY: “Where did they sit? Everywhere is locked, and the members could not have sat. They were just inside loitering about, only to come and announce to you people that they have sat.”

A new twist, however, emerged when the clerk of the house, Mr Pius Udo emerged to announce that neither the Uzoezie nor the Maduagwu faction was able to sit as they could not meet a compromise.

It was further gathered that the happenings in the assembly were as a result of the primary election of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Members of the house loyal to Uzoezie were said to be those who were shortchanged during the primary election, leading to their being denied tickets to contest for higher positions.

Meanwhile, the APGA leadership in the state has issued a statement suspending three members of the house.

The statement signed by the state chairman of the party, Hon Norbert Obi said that the members were suspended for engaging in activities that caused crisis in the assembly.

They are Ikemba Uzoezie, Hayford Oseke and Ikechukwu Umenwa.
