As a fallout of controversies generated by its primary elections, the Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has set up a reconciliation committee.

The 6-man committee headed by a former Governor of the State, Barr. Sullivan Chime, has the 2015 guber candidate of the party in the State, Barr. Okey Ezea as secretary.

DAILY POST reports that Enugu is among the States where wild protests have greeted the outcome of the APC primaries, with several chieftains, including the Director General of the Voice of Nigeria, Mr. Osita Okechukwu condemning the process.

Some aggrieved members have already defected to the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.

They include Gbazuagu Nweke Gbazuagu, Group Capt. J.O. Orji, (Rtd.), among others.

While inaugurating the committee at the party’s secretariat in Enugu, the State chairman, Barr. Ben Nwoye urged them to assuage the feelings of all the angry members.

He said, “talk to them that it is about Nigeria. Some of them have gone to APGA. They should not waste their time in pursuing their political ambition in a party that barely exists in one State.

“So, you have to talk to all those who are very aggrieved. Osita Okechukwu and Surv. P. C Eze, we need them to stay; their petition did not make the NWC change their stand on earlier decision on the primary. We have to appeal to all of them to accept it in good faith, so that we remain one family.”

Responding on behalf of the committee, Chime assured that they would deliver on the mandate.

On the primaries, he said, “I’m happy over the outcome; if the opposition is not comfortable with your candidates it means you have succeeded. We are going for the election strong, on top.

“The system must find a way of appeasing people. We are going to war with the other parties, so it is not time to talk about factions, we are all APC, when we come back, we settle our differences, but we must go for election as one strong APC, we must que behind our candidates.”

“We will make sure that our people are brought back to the mainstream APC. I believe before the end of this year, we will have a united party, we will campaign together and shame the opposition.”
