Usman Zaki emerges Labour Party presidential candidate, announces running mate

Alhaji Usman Zaki has emerged the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP).

Zaki, was elected at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja with about 120 delegates in attendance from across the country.

The convention ratified his candidature through a voice vote following the earlier disqualification of other aspirants who did not meet the requirements of the party or failed to present themselves for screening.

Chairman of the committee, Comrade Adi Shirsha Adi, said they carried out thorough screening of the candidate whom he said met all requirements of the Labour party.

Moving a motion for the adoption of the candidate, Hon. Pat Udorji declared that Alhaji Zaki was credible to lead the party to victory in 2019.

Speaking, Zaki said he was committed to rescuing Nigeria “from the stranglehold of underdevelopment and economic backwardness”.

He vowed to pursue vigorously the mandate given to him by the party, promising to “unite Nigeria, create jobs and put smiles on the faces of the people if voted into power as President”.

Zaki also promised to priotise the welfare of workers and provide an enabling environment for entrepreneurs in the country.

The LP presidential candidate also presented his running mate, Chief Ezekiel Akpan, to the delegates, observers and other leaders of the party.

The exercise was also witnessed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
