FG must mix socialism with capitalism—Alatise
By Agbonkhese Oboh
THE Federal Government will make progress in effective governance if it mixes capitalism with a little socialism, as welfare is an important aspect of leadership.
This was the submission of Mrs Oluyemisi Alatise, the immediate past President of Inner Wheel International, at a reception/boat cruise organised in her honour by Inner Wheel District 911, led by Mrs Abimbola Shoga.
According to Mrs Alatise, “Nigeria needs to mix a little of socialism with capitalism. This is because we need to be more of welfare-oriented country. During my tenure as the World President of the club, I was in 28 countries.
“While commissioning projects and touching lives, I met with world leaders and lawmakers, from what I saw, Nigeria must realise that the solution to our challenges as a country with so much peculiarities, is a socialist-welfare system of governance.
“Our social services are poor, giving organisations such as ours a lot of work to do in trying to reach the needy and downtrodden. This is why we must find a way to mix socialism and capitalism for the sake of welfare,” Alatise, the first African to be President in the club’s 94 years, added.
The cruise, which had over 40 women in attendance with many giving testimony of Mrs Alatise’s influence and positive impact in their lives, began from Lekki, through the Ikoyi main-stream and turned back at the American embassy.
