Europa League: Martin Keown identifies player who helped Arsenal win 4-2 at Poltava

Former Arsenal star, Martin Keown has identified Lucas Torreira as a top performer in the club’s victory over Vorskla Poltava at the Europa League on Thursday.

Keown also called on manager Unai Emery to bench Matteo Guendouzi and replace him with Torreira in Arsenal’s starting XI for the Premier League clash with Everton.

Torreira was signed from Sampdoria for £26million and was expected to be a mainstay in the Gunners midfield this season.

However, he is yet to start in the Premier League, with Emery largely favouring Guendouzi and Granit Xhaka in the centre of the pack.

But Torreira impressed Keown in a 4-2 win over Vorskla Poltava in the Europa League.

“Guendouzi has come into that midfield,” Keown told BT Sport.

“You have to say he’s played with a lot of heart, a lot of spirit for a youngster, there’s ingredients in his game that might have been missing from the team.

“But Torreira surely has to come in now and he has to play.

“He does things very simply, he’s not frightened to make a pass, he feeds people as well.

“He knows what he’s good at and he’s got good ability as well. I like his tenacity.”
