Otukpo cult war: LG boss, George Alli speaks on renewed violence in Benue community
The Executive Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State, Rt. Hon. George Alli, on Saturday, condemned in strong terms, the renewed cult-related violent clashes in the area, which had claimed the lives of three persons.
DAILY POST reports that three persons, including one Ochoche Dickson Iduh, who just completed his NYSC program, was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Adoka/Ojira Streets, Otukpo on Friday morning.
A source told our reporter that the young man lost his life after two rival cult groups launched attack on themselves in the area.
The source said battle has been going on over a week before the Friday’s attack, saying that three others were killed few weeks ago.
Reacting, however, the Chairman said was he disturbed by the development and called on the various security agencies to step up their game and ensure that peace is fully restored to every part of Otukpo towns and its environs.
Alli, a former State House of Assembly lawmaker said, “As we approach the festive season, we know that much work needs to be done to ensure that people conduct their affairs within the ambit of the law. I, therefore, call on the various security agencies to step up their game to ensure peace and security for all.
“In recent times, Otukpo towns and its environs have enjoyed peace and relative calmness, even in the midst of primary elections by the various political parties. For that peace to be breached by this ugly development, is unacceptable”.
“As a government, we will ensure that Otukpo is completely free of this scourge,” Alli said.
