A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Bolaji Ayorinde, has emerged the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Oyo State at the party’s primaries held yesterday.

Due to the withdrawal of other aspirants, who supported him, Ayorinde emerged by affirmation and a ‘yes’ vote at the primary election. After the event, state’s Chairman of SDP, Kola Balogun described Ayorinde’s emergence as a positive development for the party and for the emergence of good governance and responsible government in the state.

According to him, no other candidate from other parties will match the standard that the SDP flag bearer will bring to bear on governance.“Ayorinde will be coming to office with not only professional excellence but also integrity of purpose and unblemished records in public service,” he said.

Speaking, Ayorinde pledged to enthrone a government that will ensure social justice and equitable distribution of the state’s resources for the benefit of all. However, a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CNB), Adebayo Adelabu has emerged governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State after four aspirants stepped down for him.

Chairman, Electoral Committee, Demola Seriki said Adelabu polled 4,889 to defeat Adebayo Alao-Akala who polled 65 votes and former Commissioner for Health, Azzez Adeduntan who polled seven votes.

In a related development, Minister of Communications and an APC governorship aspirant, Adebayo Shittu, has accused Governor Abiola Ajimobi of orchestrating his disqualification from contesting the party’s primaries. Shittu, who spoke on Channels TV on Sunday, said he was disqualified because Ajimobi and his supporters were afraid that he would run a transparent and independent government.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state has elected Oluwaseyi Makinde as its governorship candidate ahead of next year’s general elections. Makinde emerged the winner having scored 2,772 votes to defeat his rival Hamzat Ayoade Adeseun who polled 21 votes in the election, which results were announced on Sunday night.
