73-year-old man remanded for allegedly raping teenager
An Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court on Friday remanded a 73-year-old man identified as Dada Orimoloye for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Oriyomi Akinwale, told the court that the accused lured the 14-year-old girl into his room and defiled her.
Akinwale stated that the victim had sustained injuries and has been admitted in the hospital for treatment.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the accused in prison pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
However, the plea of the accused was not taken.
The offence contravenes Section 31 (2) of the Child’s Rights Law of Ekiti State, 2012.
The Magistrate, Mrs Modupe Afeniforo, then ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case until Nov. 2, for mention.
