The Senator representing Abia South in the National Assembly, Enyinnaya Abaribe, has urged Nigerians to shun vote trading and use their votes to better the lot of the country in the 2019 polls.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, Abaribe said that the choice to unify and make Nigeria great again was in the hands of the electorates.

Speaking ahead of the madden edition of the ‘Igbo Unity Cup’ football tournament, Abaribe stressed the need for Nigerians to vote for the unity and progress of the nation.

He said that there were a lot of lessons to be drawn form past elections and the present government and that there was need to put the experience to use.

“It is up to Nigerians to make that choice, either to remain in difficult times or take a different path.

“It is a choice Nigerians has to make and we have seen that Nigerians already had their minds made up to vote to turn the situation around,” he said.

Abaribe said that Nigeria had suffered a hemorrhage of human and capital flight and that there was need to boost confidence of investors.

The senator said that Nigerians must ensure not to vote into power a government bereft of ideas as the nation enters campaign season.

He said that there was need to speedily move the country forward and to improve the standard of living.

Abaribe said that the essence for seeking unity and peace was because there were various tendencies trying to draw the nation apart.

According to him, anything that is designed to bring Nigerians together, we seriously support it and that is why we are giving our support to the Igbo Unity Cup tournament.

The lawmaker said that the Igbo Unity Cup tournament would not only foster unity among the ethnic but also serve as a platform to showcase talent that would feed the national teams.

Abaribe said that the tournament would enhance the cordial relationship of the Igbo people with the host community in and around the metropolis.

He described the Igbo ethnic group as united and peace-loving people who often move from their ancestral homeland to settle all over the country in peace.

In a separate interview, the President of Igbo-Bu-Tu Progressive Association, Mr Noble Adaelu said that the cup tournament would be an annual event.

He said that would enhance fitness, strengthen unity and serve as a platform for talented Igbo youths to showcase their worth to the world.

Adaelu said that the tournament would feature Igbo values, heritage and cultural display while strengthening the connections of the people to their ancestral roots.

He explained that the tournament would take place in all the states outside the South East zone and the best team would emerge overall winner.

NAN reports that the “Igbo Unity Cup” tournament would be unveiled on December 1, at the Raw Material Research and Development Council hall in Abuja and the event would be chaired by Abaribe. (NAN)
