2019 AFCON: South Africa coach, Stuart Baxter reveals Bafana Bafana’s game plan against Nigeria
South Africa coach, Stuart Baxter, has disclosed his side’s game plan against Nigeria ahead of both teams’ 2019 African Cup of Nations, AFCON, qualifying clash on Saturday.
The Bafana Bafana will tackle the Super Eagles at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg this weekend.
Baxter’s men head to the game after playing a 1-1 draw with Seychelles at home in their last game, while Gernot Rohr’s side defeated Libya 3-2.
Baxter said South Africa will not give the three-time African champions any momentum.
“I have an idea of what I need to do although there might be one or two changes and I also need to fine-tune a few areas ahead of Saturday’s game,” Baxter was quoted on safa.net as saying at pre-match.
“But I must say that I was very happy with the training today.
“We need to stifle them and not give them any momentum. They (players) need to relax at the right time and be aggressive at the right time.”
“I don’t believe the ongoing heat wave will be an issue to either side, after all, most of Nigeria’s players play overseas.
“We definitely need a good crowd like what greeted us in Uyo in the reverse fixture; truth is a small crowd won’t be an advantage to us.”
